- Description
- Controlled on-bottom lateral buckling of partially embedded pipelines is a novel and cost effective solution to relieve the axial compressive stresses resulting from cycles of thermal expansion and contraction of operating pipelines. To investigate the mechanisms involved in pipe-soil interaction under large-amplitude cyclic movements, large deformation finite element analyses have been conducted. The dynamic coupled simulations not only capture the complex changes in seabed geometry during lateral buckling, but also consider likely episodes of undrained or partially drained behaviour interspersed with periods of soil consolidation.
